TERRY HUEY FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER - Taney County Prosecutor's Office - Press Release
FORSYTH, MO - Taney County Prosecuting Attorney, Jeffrey M. Merrell announced today that TERRY LYNN HUEY dob: 12-26-1954 of Harrison, Arkansas was found guilty of murder in the second degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon by a six (6) man, six (6) woman jury after a three day jury trial in front of Taney County Circuit Judge Mark Orr. On July 19, 2007 officers from the Branson Police Department responded to the Crescent Court Motel on North Business 65 in response to 911-call that a man had entered the main office covered in blood. The man bled to death at the scene from a stab wound to the left shoulder. A Walgreens bag left at the scene led detectives to the Branson Walgreens where they were able to develop a suspect from surveillance video. That individual, TERRY LYNN HUEY was later arrested in Boone County, Arkansas. Detectives recovered a large hunting knife from TERRY LYNN HUEY'S property at the Cow Creek Campground in Stone County where he was living. That knife tested positive for the presence of human blood and had DNA that was consistent with the victim. Items recovered from the crime scene were also tested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol crime lab and had DNA that was consistent with TERRY LYNN HUEY on them. In response to the guilty verdict on all counts, Taney County Prosecuting Attorney, Jeffrey Merrell was satisfied, stating, "[h]ad it not been for the excellent police work of the Branson Police Department and Boone County Sheriff's Department a killer would still be at large. This is a tragic event that is uncharacteristic for our community and the city of Branson." Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Christopher W. Lebeck, went further stating "The successful testing of evidence in this case demonstrates that there is a real need for a regional crime lab in Springfield to assist in evidence testing, as a quick turnaround of DNA and blood analysis is so important in cases with such tragic circumstances." Formal sentencing in the case is set for October 16, 2008. Murder in the second degree has a range of punishment of ten (10) to thirty (30) years in the Department of Corrections, or life imprisonment. The unclassified felony of armed criminal action has a range of punishment of not less than three (3) years imprisonment. The class D felony of unlawful use of a weapon has a range of punishment of one (1) day to one (1) year in the county jail, or one (1) year to four (4) years in the Department of Corrections and/or a fine not to exceed five thousand (5,000) dollars.
